Breaking News: Unknown gunmen assassinate Chief Imam

The Chief Imam of Egbeta Mosque, Mallam Saka Afolabi, in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State has been reportedly assassinated.

The Imam was on his way to the Mosque with his two sons when he was accosted by his assailants and shot in the chest.

One of his sons who witnessed the killing, Mutiu Afolabi, said three young men accosted them and shot his father.

He said: “We were going to the mosque, when three boys came on a motorcycle. One of them said, ‘this is the man.’ They pointed torchlight at our faces and shot my father.”

Confirming the incident, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Moses Nkombe, said those fingered in the murder would be invited for questioning.

He noted that their alibi was not sufficient for exoneration, revealing that men of the homicide department had been tasked to fish out the killers.
