JUST FOR A PLATE OF PORRIDGE
Many times, we read some scriptures and bible stories we
feel like bringing those people in the stories back to life and flog hell out
of them. I remember those days in the
children's catechism class we were told that, everybody is suffering today in
the world because of ordinary fruit eaten by Adam and his wife. I was like, why
couldn't Adam and his wife control
their appetite knowing that the fate and destiny of the whole humanity is
hanging on their shoulders at that point in time when Satan came up with that
temptation.
What then can we say of Esau, who sold his birth right
and the birth right of his future generation because of a plate of porridge?
Hunger, lust and lasciviousness has destroyed individuals and organisations
today because of wrong decision taken by an individual in the time of hunger or
temptation by the flesh. Many men could not take the right decision at sight of
the pubic area of the opposite sex or even the memory of it. Many ladies throw
chasity and sanity to the wind at the sight of hard currency from men even
those old enough to be their grandfathers.
Our politicians are in the know of what the people really
want, but fear of losing their positions has made them to sell and betray their
people at the altar of egocentrism. Is Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe the only Igbo
senator in Nigeria, where are others? They have really sold the interest of
their people for ordinary political appointment and some financial
gratification in form of lobbying. "Ogbenye onu ntu" Poor wretched,
and most miserable individuals.
When we told you that we need referendum not election,
you told us that our votes will count, why have you all gone mute? Apostles of
PVC, I guess you are coming back to your senses now. You cannot eat your cake
and have it back. You accepted a plate of porridge at the expense of our lives
and future. There is an Igbo proverb that says, "when a blind man finishes
licking the Udara fruit he stepped on, by chance, let him go and get another
one."
Until we begin to understand that power belongs to the people,
we may not get it right as other advanced countries. We have all waited for the
National Assembly of Nigeria to make laws to protect the vulnerable members of
the public from incessant attacks from Boko Haram, Fulani Herdsmen and bandits
but you were all concerned about hate speech oozing out from the victims of
terror attacks out of frustration. Unfortunately, there is no man enough in the
house to stop the anti-hate speech crusaders as many of them have sold their
birth right for a plate of porridge to quench their insatiable hunger for
wealth. They could no longer stand on
the side of the people as the powers that be will single them out as rebels and
crush them adequately with the government's institutions for having a different
opinion from the power brokers.
Just a reminder, after Esau sold his birth right to his
smart younger brother Jacob, the stage was set for a generational war that
lingers up till this moment. The war in the middle East is part of it. Majority
of the Palestinians today are descendants of Esau and so the war for the
blessed land of Abraham an Isaac lingers till this day. The curse that follows political
class of this day for selling their birth right may not be erased in the next
100yrs. That is how bad it is. If you are a politician the best you can do is
to stand with the people and allow the people to protect you, all we want is
Biafra and you all know it. We don't want war, that is why we opt for a
referendum, for people to decide where they want to belong. No matter what
anyone does, Biafrans must be free.
