SHARING YOUR TERRITORY
From inception, the issue of security has remained a
pivotal role of everyone living within a given society. In the olden days, we
have our neighbourhood watch which engages the service of the youth, the elders,
the spiritual leaders of the community; the chief priest, priestess and the herbalist.
Everyone was involved in the issues of security. It was never easy for a stranger
to penetrate the traditional security apparatus of our people without being
noticed and apprehended by the responsible organ.
The threat to our lives and properties started when the
role of safeguarding our communities by ourselves, were relegated to the
background by handing it over to strangers and foreigners through the obnoxious
policies of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Is it not surprising that the
state Governors who are the chief security officers of their states do not have
power over the police in their state, as against the constitutional provision
on such matters?
Two major issues that formed the lyrics of the mantra
used during electioneering campaign that brought in the ruling party; APC in
Nigeria are, Security and Corruption. It is now left for those who claim they
are Nigerians to conduct a “SIA” (Social Impact Assessment) of these
issues. How many Fulani Herdsmen are in
jail for invading, burning, raping, maiming and wiping out a good number of
indigenous populations? How many Boko Haram terrorist are in jail for sacking
so many villages in the North East and other Northern states and even invading
a military Barrack? It is no longer news that some alleged repented Boko Haram
terrorist have been inducted into Nigeria Army. Nigeria is currently playing
host to the to the United Nations recognized terrorists; Fulani Herdsmen, Boko
Haram, Miyetti Allah and Bandits.
The old Eastern Region also known by her ancient name;
Biafra has become the victims of various onslaught in the contraption called
Nigeria, as all these terror groups have infiltrated the police, the army and even
cattle herders. This is the price Biafrans are paying for being forced by
Britain to share their territory with terrorist.
One of the founding mothers of modern Israel Mrs Golder
Mayr made a striking comment when addressing the regular issue of conflict in
the middle East in the 50s between Israel and Palestine; "I will never
share my territory with terrorists.” This is the same cry of the Biafrans today.
And United Nations should as matter of urgency do the needful, to avert another
civil war which is imminent, for Biafrans have the divine and legal right to
defend themselves.
Oh Biafrans, freedom is our goal!
